Gram-Utthan(GU) which means ‘Raising of Village’ is a community based women and child centric non-profit organization was registered on April 1990 under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 bearing its registration No: 19150/7. Over the years, GU has worked towards a holistic development of the Poorest of the Poor (POP). The organization was established by the initiative of Mr. Govind Dash, a founder member, with a group of committed activists.
Over the years, GU focuses for dealing with issues pertaining to livelihood, long and short duration Skill training, water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Gender equity, Mainstreaming gender, organizing the unorganized sector workers, child rights for protection etc. with the vision of a world where all vulnerable communities are accessed to and protected against exploitation and have every opportunity for development.
“Towards life with Human Dignity” has been the driving force for Gram-Utthan to remain rooted in the core value of enhancing human dignity and sustainable development. By integrating the programme organization has been starving very hard, to build the capacity, provide opportunities and help the rural communities to be the master of their own destiny. Gram-Utthan emphasizes and encourages community participation at every level. It has experienced that worth and strength of both livelihood and Human Rights Based Approach to development and has made conscientious choice to move forward with the same in all its program interventions.
