Trees for Agriculture, Resilience and Upliftment

‘ReNew TARU Odisha’

(Trees for Agriculture, Resilience and Upliftment)

Project Summary:

This is an agroforestry project initiative under the ARR (Afforestation Reforestation and Revegetation) projects which aims to increase vegetation cover by planting native tree species in degraded lands. This is a voluntary project implemented by Gram-Utthan with support from ReNew Power Synergy Pvt Ltd. The project involves farmers as primary stakeholders and include planting of native horticulture and timber tree species. The Project activities aim to enhance biodiversity, climate resilience, soil fertility, and sustainable land management practices. The project activities remove Greenhouse gases (GHG) through the net positive capturing of carbon dioxide (CO2), resulting from the establishment and net biomass growth from the plantations. Before the project activity, the selected land parcels were devoid of any significant woody plants. The project facilitates a shift in farmers' traditional agricultural practices towards agroforestry, simultaneously offering them stable benefits from plantation yields while actively contributing to various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project actively engages local communities and supports their livelihood through it’s operations like pit digging, planting saplings, etc. The Saplings are distributed to farmers by project implementing partners for plantation, accompanied by guidance on maintenance and necessary activities for optimal growth. This comprehensive approach ensures the project's positive impact on the local environment and community.

Geographic spread: The activities under the project will be implemented in the state of Odisha, India.

Tentative Project Start Date: The plantation activity will commence in the August of 2024
